Question: A good friend of mine had a weird episode 3 days ago. He was standing in the bathroom, when this feeling of extreme heat , and nausea came over him. He apparently fainted, and woke up on the floor of the bathroom, with no knowledge of how he got there. He is a male age 48. Can you help

Brief Answer:
This is a syncopal attack. Unless it happens again, no worries!

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about what your friend experienced. I have reviewed the symptoms fully and this is suggestive of a syncopal attack. Most attacks are caused by a drop in the amount of blood delivered to the brain in the upright position and as such they feel faint and pass out. Unless this happens more than once, there is generally no disease condition behind it. However, if it does happen again, he will need to get evaluated by a cardiologist. We will at least need to obtain a resting EKG to make sure the heart rhythm is normal. Also, a measure of his blood pressure in the upright and sitting position will be of help.

I hope this helps. I wish your friend well. Thanks for using our services and feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be.
