XXXX son, 28, rosacea 2 photos
Brief Answer:
Metronidazole gel and broad spectrum sunscreen
Detailed Answer:
I have reviewed the attached photographs.
If I was his treating doctor I would recommend him to apply metronidazole gel on the affected areas twice daily along with frequent and liberal application of a broad spectrum sunscreen on the entire face during the day time.
Besides this ask him to stay away from sun and avoid using cosmetics on his face. Drink cleaner water and exercise regularly to boost immunity.
This might be a prescription gel and he needs to see the doctor in person to get it.

Can you recommend a broad spectrum anti-irritating sunscreen made for the face? He has issues with stinging and burning from over the counter standard sunscreen?
Metronidazole is flagyl, the old standby for yeast overgrowth in the body. As a child he was treated for thrush (common back then in that era for children) with same but oral antibiotic...do you recommend a stronger does of oral M to "hit this hard" in the beginning of this course of topical treatment?
Should he avoid alcohol while using this gel? He is not a big or daily drinker but has an occasional beer?
How long before he sees improvement in facial skin?
How long is one typical course of Metronidazole?
Will he always need to do this or will one course of treatment clear the skin for good?
Sorry so many questions...I appreciate your expertise very much and so excited to know there is something to help my sons skin.

Brief Answer:
No need of oral metronidazole, cetaphil or suncros sunscreen
Detailed Answer:
He can use either cetaphil sunscreen lotion or suncros sunscreen lotion.
No need of oral metronidazole. Only topical metronidazole is recommended in rosacea.
He can take alcohol occasionally and in moderate amounts.
He can see improvement after 4-6 weeks of starting treatment.
If this doesn't help significantly he might require oral medication as well.
The gel has to be used for 3-4 months in usual cases but it varies from person to person.
Number of courses of treatment vary from person to person as Rosacea is a chronic disease.
