Suggest Treatment For Tenderness, Swelling And Difficulty In Swallowing After Injury

default
Posted on Mon, 18 May 2015
Question: Hello. I was attacked and choked by a guy fairly hard on Wednesday. He left bruises all over my arms and a little bruising on my neck. Since then my neck has been tender, swollen, and have been having trouble swallowing. Yesterday and today, I started getting really hoarse, lots of drainage, and coughing a lot...similar to having a cold. I have also been feeling extra tired and getting light headed. Could this be something serious? I honestly have avoided going to see someone, because I don't want to talk about what happened. Is there some sort of thing I can do at home...like icing and ibuprofen?

Brief answer....steam inhalation and ibuprofen is the answer..
Detailed answer...
Hello,
Thanks for the query.
I have read your query and understand our concern.
Basically speaking you have two problems but seem unrelated to each other.
Swelling and pain in neck is mainly  due to blunt trauma and can be taken care of by taking ibuprofen 400 mg three times a day and local ice pack on neck 3-4 times a day.
As far as hoarseness, coughing, phlegm is concerned,it appears to be due to associated cold virus and the best treatment for it would be ...
Steam inhalation 2-3 times a day
Warm saline gargles 2 times a day
Consuming more of hot liquids
Avoiding cold drinks and smoking,if any.
Take this treatment for another 48 hours and if you feel that your problems are still the same or increased, then you are advised to consult a doctor n person.
I hope it helps however you may revert to me or any further query.
Best of luck
Thanks
