Question: Hi. I have had throat pain right side when swallowing. I have been on ant biotics for 7days and pain still there. Worried about throat cancer. Doctor said it is red raw and infected but not tonsilitis. Is it advised to look in to throat cancer? Thank you

Brief Answer:
Seems to be acute pharyngitis.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I have gone through your question and understand your concerns that you are having throat pain. I would like to ask you few more details.

Is there any neck swelling (lymph node enlargement)?
Is your throat pain associated with change of voice?

Kindly get back to be with the details.

As per your clinical details, it appears to be acute pharyngitis.

Acute pharyngitis, most commonly due to bacteria, which are sensitive to penicillins (amoxcillin).

Do not worry, its not a cancer (throat cancer is uncommon in your age, not associated with any other symptoms (neck swelling, hoarseness of voice).

Redness with painful raw area suggests active infection.

I suggest the following measures, to overcome your throat pain.
1. Needs change of antibiotic (as you are resistant to augmentin). kindly revisit your treating doctor for the same.
2. salt water gargling.
3. Take pain killer, like tab. dolo (paracetamol 650 mg- safer for hyperacidity).

Hope this answers your question, if you have additional questions or follow up questions then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your questions.

Wishing you good health.

no neck swelling- no cancer.

Detailed Answer:
Hello again,

Thanks for considering my answer and for your follow up.

Painless neck swelling is one of the sign of throat cancer. Any ways, don't panic. It's just an infection.

Kindly follow the instructions, what I have already mentioned.

All the best. Take care.
