Suggest Treatment For Tightness And Pressure In The Middle Back Area

default
Posted on Mon, 22 Jun 2015
Question: I am experiencing discomfort & tightness/pressure around my bra line & sometimes into the middle of back & into the right shoulder blade - sometimes feeling a pinching or tingling in the shoulder blade area. I am taking a Dexilant once a day - I usually take it with lunch or supper. There is no sharp pain involved. I will often have a lot of burping - some times passing gas. I am 68 years old. I think I find this happening soon after I drink & eat. I will sometimes experience some breathlessness too when I am feeling the pressure around the bra line. It is better when I remove the bra.

Brief Answer:
Asthma or heart problem can be the case.

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Thank you for the query.

Gallbladder issues does not give such symptoms. Much more characteristic for gallbladder problem is pain.discomfort located right below the right rib cage. It tends to radiate to the back or right shoulder.

Your symptoms seems to be caused by GERD and asthma together. However heart problem should be considered as well.

GERD is a condition called acid reflux disease. Due to stomach acid presence in the esophagus and up to the throat, burping, chest burning, chest discomfort can be present along with nausea. Please perform a simple test. Take a nip of lukewarm water when the discomfort will appear. If this will cause few seconds of relief, acid reflux issue it is.

GERD very often coexists with asthma. Shortness of breath, chest tightness are quite characteristic for this condition. Cough is also very often present.
Asthma can give also kind of itching inside the chest. You may also hear a wheezing when breathing out rapidly.

Heart problem can also give shortness of breath and chest tightness. Left arm and haw numbness or stiffness can appear, especially after physical activity.

I suggest you to consult pulmunologist and cardiologist. Blow test and heart ultrasound should be done to rule out asthma and heart problem.

Hope this will help. Feel free to ask further questions.
Regards.
