Suggest Treatment For Tightness In The Chest, Chronic Hives And Swollen Cheeks

On top of all of that I came down with a cold. I had a herpes simplex outbreak last May, it always occurs on the same side of my face, the side that is swollen. I am wondering if the hives and this herpes outbreak are related. I have been to a dermatologist and allergist and they said I am not allergic to anything. Did blood work and allergy testing., all came back negative. But everyday, later in the day my cheeks get very red and the one side is slightly swollen. They are warm to the touch.
To me this is not normal. I cannot seem to get any answers. I did not have this face issue until I broke out with hives. I cannot get the hives under control. I have tried just about everything. The face issue seems to be getting worse.
Maybe it is a side effect from the prednisone I am looking for answers. The hives control my life.

Detailed Answer:
Hello!
Welcome and thank you for asking on HCM!
I carefully passed through your question and would explain that your symptoms could be related to an abnormal autonomic reaction of the skin vessels, related to the herpes infection.
From the other hand prednisone can help reduce the inflammation but can activate herpes infection.
So, I would recommend trying not to use it.
An antihistamine (diphenhydramine or Benadryl) coupled with acyclovir could help reduce these symptoms. You can try these drugs topically first (as ointment). Then, if you experience good effects you can take Benadryl orally. It is an allergic drug, but it can be really helpful in relieving the hives related to herpes infection.
I would also recommend consulting with a dentist to exclude any possible infection, which can cause facial swelling.
Hope to have been helpful!
Kind regard,
Dr. Iliri
