Suggest Treatment For Tinnitus

Question: Hi, I was just lying in bed while on a conference call and I suddenly heard a motor sound in my right ear. It continued for a few seconds and I leapt up and went into the bathroom to look in the mirror (In the time this was occurring, I was thinking/wondering to myself that it was an aneurysm). There was no pain. It stopped after another few seconds. I've never had this sort of sound before. I do have occasional tinnitus. I am really worried as I'm a 39 year ol wife and mother. Thanks

Thanks for posting the query. I will try my best to help you with this problem.

The above mentioned symptoms are very common while using the telephone. This happens due to fluctuation in the frequency of sound waves. The sudden fluctuation in wave frequency irritates the sensitive inner ear nerves thus emitting the above tinnitus.

Do not worry! It is absolutely normal and not a sign of aneurysm. Aneurysm sounds remain constant and will be very bothersome. If the symptoms persist, get an audiological investigation done to rule out Eustachian tube block or nerve damage (which is very unlikely).
