Suggest Treatment For Tiredness And Excessive Bleeding

default
Posted on Tue, 25 Oct 2016
Question: Each menstrual cycle I suffer from exhaustion from the start to mid way. Bleeding is a lot in first two days and then normal. I am usually very regular. Can you recommend any treatment or medication for the tiredness as it's pretty disabling to work with. Also I get very bad migraines a day or so before I go on the period. I don't know if it's connected but I also suffer from bad migraines if I run too far or exercise too much. Any advice?

Hi
Welcome to healthcare magic. I am Dr Ramadevi Wani. I will be answering your concerns today.

I have read your notes carefully. From your notes, it appears that the exhaustion you are suffering is most likely due to the heavy flow and migraines.
Take Mafenamic acid 500 mg thrice daily after meals from a day before starting mensus to until bleeding reduces. This helps to relieve migraine and at the same time reduces menstrual bleeding to some extent.
Is your thyroid hormone normal? Even that can cause heavy bleeding.
The migraine related to mensus is attributed to the normal fall in estrogen level just before mensus. Include estrogen rich food like soy proteins in your diet.
You also need to consult Gynecologist and get an ultrasound done to evaluate for the reason for heavy bleeding.
Have you checked your hemoglobin level? If you have not done please do it. If you have anaemia, that can be treated.

I hope this is helpful.
If you have further concerns, do write to me.
I will be happy to answer.
Best wishes,
Dr Rama
