Suggest Treatment For Tooth Abscess And Swelling
Question: I went to the ER yesterday thinking that i just had a tooth absess, but the swelling has continued to grow. I have tried hot compresses, swelling increased. Cold compresses and it has swelled even farther. I am on 500mg penisullin vk, bennadryl, 400mg ibuprophen. Its consumed half of my face. I dont know what else to do. I am 28 weeks pregnant and i cant get into see an oral surgeon until tomorrow at the earliest. But i am not sure its an infection if 500mg of penisullin isnt helping. Any idea what this could be? The internet has been exhausted, short of preclamcia... i do have other preclamcia symptoms but i am struggling to eat a decent meal and i am not a fan of taking a bunch of pills. Photos are yesterday after getting home from the ER and the 2nd one was this morning.
Brief Answer:
Due to the abscess itself.
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.
A swelling only on one side of the face is less likely to be due to pre eclampsia. A tooth abscess can cause the swelling if the infection is severe. Taking oral antibiotic will not control the infection immediately if there is a some pus collection inside. Only the drainage of abscess will help in decreasing the swelling. You need an oral surgeon to drain the abscess.
