Suggest Treatment For Tooth Infection

default
Posted on Mon, 23 Feb 2015
Question: Dear Doctor,

Patient has been diagnosed with a small tooth infection. A tiny tooth abscess seems to have developed from this. The abscess pops every now and then and some pus comes out. There is no pain in the tooth. The tooth underwent a root canal treatment 10 years ago. A dentist has advised to extract the tooth. However, patient is currently not able to undergo a tooth extraction.

1. How long would it be safe to wait before having to extract the tooth, are there any signs or symptoms to look for?
2. Is there anything you could recommend to prevent the infection from getting worse? So that time before tooth extraction could be prolonged
3. Do you see any other treatment than extracting the tooth, do you need anymore information?

Regards
doctor

1. See as you have infection pus formation in tooth so I will suggest you to consult good oral surgeon get IOPA xray of tooth and go for treatment . Applyng pressure on swelling may worsen your infection and whenever you have symptoms of Redness ,pain, swelling , collection of pus you must visit dentist for treatment .

3. As you are aking for orther treatment As far as I have obsereved your tooth can be saved by Re-Root canal treatment if you have tooth infection and there is less bone loss or by currettage if you have periodontal abscess (gum infection) . I need radiograph of tooth . I will suggest consult oral surgeon and get radiograph of tooth that will be more helpful to evaluate and make treatment plan .

Dear Dr, thank you for the answers.

Doctor has advised to remove the tooth since it is too fragile to undergo another root canal treatment. X rays show that there really is a tooth infection, not a gum infection. But as stated previously patient cant currently undergo tooth extraction.

Is there anything that can be done to the lump containing puz? It breaks every other day but keeps coming back. Is there no way to make contract and heal?
