Suggest Treatment For Tooth Pain And Pinkish Tongue
Question: Noticed just three small raised pink painless raised taste buds on the back of my tongue yesterday. Took a three day course of erythromycin and metronidazole before then because I had a pain in my right tooth (hole in my molar) that I am sure got infected. My tongue also looks a little whitish but becomes pink when I brush. I have no pain
Brief Answer:
Nothing to worry
Detailed Answer:
Hello dear,welcome to HealthcareMagic forum.
There are thousands of taste buds(pink in color) in our tongue.Of these, few situated on the back of tongue are much larger, and are called circumvallate papillae. These are normal only;nothing to worry.
As you have no pain, there is no infection or inflammation going on-just leave it.
Hope I have answered your query.
Wishing you good health,
Regards,Dr Aslam.

Thanks for your answer. Feel much better already. However, I still feel like I have a little malaise. Its not that I feel really sick, just that I don't feel like my self 100%. I have included a picture i found on the web of how it looks like ( but mine are just 3). XXXXXXX

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear,
I understand your concerns.
All individuals may not be having same number of prominent circumvallate papillae. It may vary from 3 to 12.Also,back of tongue is not a common site for other abnormal swellings.Anyhow, to be sure,we must have a direct physical examination to assess the exact site and texture.
Regarding malaise, it may be related to the dental infection. If it doesn't come down in next 1-2 days, kindly see your dentist for further evaluation. He can help in assessment your tongue also.
Hope now you got cleared. Thank you.
