Question: I have a torn rotator cuff in my left shoulder and an impingement in the right shoulder, which causes me discomfort and sometimes pain, especially in the left shoulder. Surgery was suggested some years ago, but I did not follow through. I had breast surgery on the right with lymph node dissection, so I was reluctant to had surgery on the shoulder as I am trying to avoid surgery on that side.

Brief Answer:
Torn cuff needs surgical repair.

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

An impingement in the right shoulder can show an improvement with oral muscle relaxants along with pain killers, hot compress, local analgesic gel and a regular physiotherapy program. You need to consult a proficient physiotherapist for TENS therapy.

The torn rotator cuff in the left shoulder is best to get it repaired surgically. Since it is an old tear it is difficult to heal with a conservative management. You can get an arthroscopic surgery done which will help in an early recovery.

I hope this answers your query. Wishing you good health.
