Question: I had my thyrogen injection for 2 days and was given the contrast dose on 3rd day as out-patient and then after 72 hours I had my whole body scan. I was on low iodine diet 2 weeks prior to this procedure which is different from my XXXXXXX treatment 5 years ago when I was placed on 3-day hospital isolation when I was given the XXXXXXX Am I still going to this 3-day isolation after my whole body scan?

Brief Answer:
Isolation will not be required

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Welcome to Healthcare-Magic
Greetings of the day

The protocol of treatment of papillary carcinoma thyroid is total thyroidectomy and therapeutic Radio active Iodine. XXXXXXX is given , so that any residual tumor present following surgery is also destroyed. Residual tissue present takes up radio-iodine and his Radioactive Iodine will destroy it with emission of radiation. The dose of XXXXXXX is very high. Isolation is required to prevent exposure to other individuals. There is half life of radio active material , half life is the time taken for half of the quantity of radioactive material to deccay into on radioactive material after emission of radiation. So three days isolation is required.

As your present scan is only a diagnostic scan and not a therapeutic scan, the dose of radio active material and half life of material is smaller , so isolation will not be required.

Do get back to me if you need any further assistance.
