Brief Answer:
Trichorrhexis Nodosa

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to healthcaremagic

I am Dr. Kakkar. I have gone through your query and I have understood it.

Trichorrhexis nodosa is basically due to hair shaft injury. If the degree and frequency of injury is sufficient,it can be induced in even normal hair. However, if the hair is abnormally fragile, it may follow relatively trivial injury.

Traumatic hair care practices can lead to trichorrehexis nodosa e.g excessive combing, hair straightening/relaxers etc. They need to be ruled out.

Cumulative effect of shampooing, hair dryer use etc can also lead to trichorrhexis nodosa.

It may occur as a congenital defect in which there are other features as well e.g mental retardation, seizures, skin and nail changes etc.

It may however occur in certain families as an isolated defect. Node formation and fracture are induced by minimal trauma.

There is no treatment as such, except avoiding traumatic hair care practices like I mentioned above.
She can use a wide toothed comb, which will also minimise trauma. She should avoid excessive combing.
She can use a gentle cleansing shampoo alternate days.
Scalp itching if present due to underlying causes like dandruff, head lice etc if present, also need to be treated.

Regards

Brief Answer:
Biotin supplement

Detailed Answer:
Hi.

I have reviewed the photograph.

She can try a biotin supplement e.g Tab Revilus once daily (marketed by Dr. reddys labs in India). A trial of 4-6 months is warranted.
