
Suggest Treatment For Tuberculosis

Question: Dear sir .my son aged 14 years.is diagnosed with TB.after being experienced in his left hand pain.he has been found with 0.38 positive report.Esr..45. He is reduced his weight.but after giving medication ( forecox and calcinol XXXXXXX now after one month his weight is become 41 to 43. Kindly tell me how long i should give him medication.breif me in detail

Let me assure you that tuberculosis is a highly treatable condition but it requires prolonged treatment for at least 6 months. He has to be retested after 6 months. If the results are negative, the medicines need not be continued any further but if the results come back positive again, certain modifications need to be made to the regimen and need to be continued for another 3-4 months. I would strongly insist to keep the child under follow up of a chest centre (under RNTCP or government program for tuberculosis control).
