Suggest Treatment For Uncontrollable Blood Sugar Levels

Question: I am onHypothyroidism treatment ( Eltroxin) since year 2000,also advised Metolar XR 50 mg since then and advised Glucobay 25 before lunch,Glucobay 50 before dinner( as was touching upper limits of blood sugar) but now even with this treatment blood sugar fasting 143 and PP 193 detected.Advised Glucomet Sr 500 bid after meals,Glucobay 50 before meals and to continue Eltroxin and metolar xr 50. Please guide and advise.

Noted your concern.

In such scenario I may suggest-
- Investigations
HbA1c
Lipid Profile
Liver Function Test
Renal Function Test
Urine examination.
Ultra TSH
- Diet: You should consult near by dietitian who can plan diet for you considering your BMI and food habits.
- Exercise: Usually 150 min per week of moderate degree physical exercise is recommended.
- May suggest to continue Current medications as advised by your doctor.
- Recheck Fasting & Post-prandial Blood sugar level after 1 month.

Depending upon HbA1c and Blood sugar level appropriate changes in medications can be considered.

My Hba1c at the time of fasting and pp sugar investigation was 6.8

It denotes good diabetes control.

Detailed Answer:
HbA1c of 6.8 denotes good diabetes control.
In your case it need to compare with previous level if available.
Your fasting and post-prandial blood sugar levels are not under fair control.
There is very good chance of better control as you were on only 1 anti-diabetic medicine.

Tab Glycomet contains Metformin which is a very well accepted first line drug in the treatment of Type 2 Diabetes. It help in decreasing insulin resistance which basic pathology of Type 2 diabetes.
Also it itself or in combination with Glicobay very unlikely cause low blood sugar levels (hypoglycemia)

So continue advised treatment.

You can take proteins in the form of pulses, sprouts, egg white, soy beans, kidney beans.
Ready made protein supplement may not always needed.
Specific protein supplements for diabetics available in market you can use it but not mandatory.
