Suggest Treatment For Upper Right Abdominal Pain With Vomiting

default
Posted on Wed, 6 Jan 2016
Question: my husband has been feeling ill for several weeks since he had what was almost positively a gallstone attack that left him vomiting for several days. The pain moved from under his ribcage, and down into his lower right quadrant, where it has since... moved around ...is the only way I can explain it.
He now feels on and off pain ( not constant ) from the right side to the left. this pain moves around from next to his belly button to over near his his hip bone. He says it feels like there is something "in" there, and moving around definitely makesgallstones.eling pain in upper quadrant on left next to his two inches down from his nipple.
He has had to cut back on all of his normal activity and this has not cleared up. yesterday he was running a low grade fever. (99.7) degrees. headache as well.
his bowel functions are normal. His urine seems fine, as well. this man does not normally get sick.
he is healthy, vegetarian, exercises, not overweight at all. non smoker, non drinker, etc. he did lose a lot if weight quickly last year which I think led to the gallstones
he didn't want surgery and was worried this will be what he's told they want to do.
His regular health care does not begin until XXXXXXX 1st and we are trying to avoid medical bills, although I should say he does have some emergency insurance right now for emergency illness

Brief Answer:
Pain of long duration, needs minimum investigations to start with.

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query and an elucidate history related to your husband.
Noted the start to progression of the pain in abdomen and the present situation he is in, including the knowledge about the emergency insurance.

The pain which started in the right upper abdomen with vomiting for several days. It moved from under the rib cage to the right lower and then to the rest of the abdomen as you have explained so well. His saying that there is something in there - pain in the upper quadrant on left next to his two inches down from his nipple. He has cut back activities, yet the problem is not cleared and had a low grade fever yesterday and headache too.
Noted rest of the history also.
If the emergency insurance is there, it is worth doing some tests and I would advise you the following:
Important blood tests like CBC, blood sugar and liver function tests.
Tests of stool and urine.
And ultrasonography.
Clinical evaluation and examination by your PCP or so and to get started with proper treatment. This is so as gall stones causing pain at other parts of the stomach is very rare and occur if there is complication of gall bladder infection like gangrene or so.
No one wants surgery but it is imperative to have a proper diagnosis so that proper further investigations, Specialist's opinion and treatment can be planned.

I hope this answer helps you to have an early and proper diagnosis, please feel free to ask for further queries if you feel that there is a gap of communication.
