Suggest Treatment For Urinary Incontinence In A Person With COPD

default
Posted on Mon, 24 Apr 2017
Question: I have COPD and I am on oxygen 24/7. I started taking 10 mg.Cialis every 3 days about a month ago to improve my erections. I have suddenly developed some urinary incontinence and each time I get short of breath and must refill my Helios 02 container, I urinate small amounts and have a very hard time stopping the urine. I have made an appointment to see a Urologist, but the closest appointment I could get is for May 25. I wonder if the incontinence could be due to my taking the Cialis? I will list all of my current medications on the next page. I am concerned because I have to change underwear and trousers 2 or 3 times a day because of the urine leakage - this severely limits my social life and activities. Can you review my medications and see if it is possible that one , or a combination of them could be causing this problem?

Brief Answer:
Could be due to prostatic hypertrophy.

Detailed Answer:
Hello Sir,
Thanks for trusting HealthcareMagic!
I have gone through your query and I can understand your concerns.

All the symptoms you have mentioned suggestive of prostate related conditions, most probably BPH (benign prostatic hypertrophy).

BPH is very common in elderly, as age advances the chances for developing BPH also increase.
"Cialis" is the brand name of a drug called tadalafil. It is commonly used for erectile dysfunction and it does not cause urinary symptoms. None of your routine medicine causes urinary retention and dribbling as a side effect.

A consultation with a specialist (Urologist) is needed for detailed evaluation and early treatment. An ultra sound scan biopsy may be needed for confirming the diagnosis.

You can try the following until you get an appointment with your urologist:

(1)- Self-catheterization like condom catheterization.
(2)- Decrease fluid intake at bed time. Avoid alcohol and caffeine containing beverages.
(3)- Practice "double voiding." Urinate as much as you can, relax for a few moments, and then urinate again

Hope I have answered your query.
Please feel free to contact in case of further queries.

Wishing you good health.
Regards.
