Question: I have been doing intermittent cathederization for 9 years . I use a XXXXXXX Plus 10 French x16" cathedre. I had renal cell carcinoma in 2002. I had my entire right kidney removed{total right nephrectomy} and I still retain 85% of my left kidney. 2 days ago I became unable to have the reflex to pee but I still do the intermittent catederizations 6 times daily as I have since 2005.. I expect there could be a stricture or bladder retention or urethral obstruction . I have had a urinary tract infection each month for the last 6 months. The Tx for the urinary infections is Cipro Xl 1000 mg x7 days. What plan of forward thinking might I persue?

Brief Answer:
You need urodynamics.

Detailed Answer:
Good Day and thank you for being with Healthcare Magic!

The best way to diagnose your health problem would be a urodynamics. Urodynamic study would entail putting a small catheter inside the urinary bladder. This catheter is attached to a machine that would measure the bladder pressure. This would tell if you have bladder weakness or outlet obstruction ( stricture or BPH ). Only after this study can we determine future plan and your chances of urinating without a catheter.
