Brief Answer:
He needs to be investigated for Enlarged Prostate as primary cause for UTI

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for your query ,based on the facts that you have posted it appears that your father has UTI secondary to Enlarged Prostate

I shall be happy if you can post me few more details to help me in making comments on his problems.
1) Is his diabetes well controlled ?
2) Does he have urinary symptoms like frequency for urination ,urgency or hesitancy , nocturnal frequency since couple of years ?
3) Have you ever consulted Urologist for evaluation ?

The presence of pus cells in urine is suggestive of UTI which in majority of the patients at this age are due to
a) Uncontrolled Diabetes
b) Enlarged Prostate .

Consult qualified Urologist for clinical and digital rectal examination and get following basic tests done to confirm the diagnosis.
1) Urine routine and culture.
2) Ultrasound scanning of abdomen and pelvis with specific mention of Post Void Urine Residue (PVR)
3) Serum PSA.
4) Blood sugar levels on empty stomach and 2 hours after lunch
5) Serum HBA1c to see status of diabetes (Whether under control or not)

Further treatment will depend upon result of these tests and final diagnosis.

In the mean while start him broad spectrum antibiotics like Cefotaxime along with urinary antiseptic like Nitrofurantoin twice daily and urine alkalizer thrice daily .Later on switch on to appropriate antibiotics as per culture report.

Get the prescription of medicines from your family Physician.

Further treatment will depend upon result of these tests and final diagnosis.

Hope I have answered your query ,please feel free to ask if you have more questions , I shall be happy to help you .
Thanks and Regards.
