Brief Answer:
Your bladder needs to fill up to really test if you can urinate

Detailed Answer:
Hello, and I hope I can help you today.

I reviewed your medical history and your previous questions in order to help you today.

It seems you had problems with urinary retention even before your fibroid surgery. Your bladder got stretched out from being so distended by your late fibroids. So it will take time for your bladder to retrain to contract normally after your fibroids are gone.

I personally think if you had problems before the surgery you may benefit by having the urinary catheter remain in for another week or so for your bladder to rest. But there is no way to know if you really have retention unless you drink enough fluids to distend your bladder.

I suggest that you drink at least a liter of water or another beverage and see if you feel then like you need to urinate. If you feel your bladder getting very full and are unable to void, then I would go to the ER and have them replace the catheter. Sometimes people have to leave the catheter for a week or so until the swelling of the surgery goes down and the bladder relaxes. There is medication that also can help you to feel the sensation more when your bladder is full.

I hope that I was able to answer your question and that my advice was helpful. Please do not hesitate to contact me further if you need any clarification.

Best wishes and I hope you heal quickly from your surgery, Dr. Brown

Thank you Dr. Brown.......I drank a full glass of water and urinated two times already. I'm bleeding but my period was scheduled to come on the ninth, so I don't know if this could be me period or what. since I'm bleeding from the vagina area I'm assuming that maybe just my period. I also have a elevated heart rate of like 125_135....... maybe also because the stress from the surgery

Brief Answer:
The bleeding is normal and you probably have high pulse from anemia

Detailed Answer:
Hello again,

I am glad you are able to urinate! Regarding your other question- the bleeding from your uterus is not your period it is bleeding from the area where the fibroid used to be and is normal after a myomectomy. Your pulse rate is high both from the stress of the surgery and likely from the blood loss also- it is likely you are anemic and dehydrated. Continue to drink lots of fluids and you may want to take an iron supplement to help regenerate the blood you lost during the operation. I suggest you see your surgeon back two weeks after the surgery to re-examine you to make sure you are healing properly. But all the symptoms you are experiencing now are normal after a myomectomy.

I am glad to have been able to assist you and I hope the rest of your recovery goes smoothly.

Sincerely, Dr. Brown
