Suggest Treatment For Vaginal Itching And Tingling During Pregnancy

Posted on Tue, 28 Jul 2015
Question: Hello! I am almost 29 weeks pregnant with twins and I have been suffering from vaginal itching , burning and tingling. I have been treated for a yeast infection, tried steroid creams and antihistamine pills. The pills seem to help oa bit but my creams irritate me even more. I think I may have vaginal varicose veins because it gets worse if I am warm, anxious or standing / walking. It is so painful and irritating to the point that I cry and feel hopeless. I looked in a mirror and I am swollen down there with lumpy looking veins around the most irritated areas. Please help! I am going crazy........ Will this ever go away? I barely sleep anymore

Brief Answer:
it will go away after delivering your babys

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

yeast infections are common in pregnancy and sometimes difficult to treat because they tend to recur. Since taking antibiotics by mouth is to be avoided, topical creams can only be used. The creams may make you feel better after a while but the infection may recur and make you feel hopeless. You should be reassured that the infection would subside after delivery.

Regarding vein engorgement in the vulva: this is not so common and can be frustrating but it will also get away a few weeks after delivery. Until then you can try to improve circulation in the affected area by elevating your hips when lying down, applying cold compresses and perhaps find special clothing that support the engorged area. You should avoid standing for long. Swimming may help.

I hope you find my comments helpful!

Ok.... Only thing is all my testing results for yeast clme back negative :( my vagina feels bruised and sore. Icing does make it feel better. I think my biggest fear now is that this is a lifetime problem. Should i keep treating for yeast?

Brief Answer:
only if it does any good to you

Detailed Answer:
I understand your concerns.
Most pregnancy related problems gradually disappear after delivery.
What did your gynecologist say after examining you? What did he/she think?

If the treatment helped you with the symptoms (at least after applying it for a few times, because you may feel your vagina burning at first) then you should continue using it. The yeast may spread to the vulva also, so if your vulva is irritated you should try applying some cream there as well. Avoid using corticosteroid creams without antifungal component because these creams may reduce the irritation but they 'feed' the yeast by decreasing your body's defenses.

Best wishes!
