Question: I have never had intercourse during my marriage due to vaginismus, but had vaginal skin to skin contact. I am a virgin. I developed genital warts six months after my divorce, got them treated and they are gone. I did a pap smear last year as i had the warts it was horrible very painful but thank god came back normal. Do I have to do the pap every year? or every there years like everybody else? I dont understand why i have to do more frequent paps if genital warts are hpv 6 and hpv 11 and cervical cancer is 16, 18 and other types. Plus I never had penetration. I am dreading the next pap smear appointment as i am still a virgin and it hurts so bad.
Brief Answer:
Yearly for now, then every 3 years if all is okay!
Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.
I am so sorry to hear about this vaginismus and the warts you had on your genital area. I understand how painful and difficult it can be if every encounter with the vaginal creates these terrible painful reactions. Sorry for all the inconveniences!
You would need regular pap screening yearly and when you have at least 3 documented screenings in succession without any abnormal findings, the interval of testing can then be increased to once every 2 or 3 years. Repeated testing is a way to get very proactive towards identifying worrisome lesions early and treating completely before they develop to stages that may make treatment a lot more difficult. Testing yearly provides the chance to do this until enough information is obtained to increase the interval.
Irrespective of the strain, we need to have at least 3 documented readings in succession before increasing the interval of screening. You are right on the strain/specie but the decision to test yearly or every 2/3years depends greatly on the consistency of normal or concerning results.
For now, I will recommend you get it yearly. When you have 3 successive normal results, your doctor would make this decision together with you.
I hope this helps. I wish you well. Thank you so much for using our services and do feel free to ask for more related questions and information if need be. Thanks!

Brief Answer:
Using a very tiny speculum for virgins
Detailed Answer:
Hi and thanks for this follow up question.
I understand the fear, worries and anxiety associated with this rather very discomforting specimen collection procedure. I will suggest that your doctor uses a very tiny speculum adapted for virgins so that it can fit with ease and prevent serious pains. Lubricating it with a xylocaine gel would provide some anesthetic and numbing effects that can hep dampen the pain as well.
I hope this helps. I wish you well and feel free to ask for more information or clarification if need be.

Thank you. I am really terrified of this whole hpv thing. I keep checking my genitals and found like small goosbump like spots near the anus area. Are these small warts again??? i hope they didn't return :(
Brief Answer:
Need to get them examined!
Detailed Answer:
Hi and thanks for this follow up.
I am not surprised you are so terrified by this HPV and all its associated complications. Everyone is very scared of this but very few persons go on to develop complications like cancer.
I will like to have an image of this rash so as to be able to tell whether it is an HPV related wart or not. Ask our customer service on how to upload a picture should you have any difficulties doing so.
I wish you well. Thank you so much for this opportunity and look forward to taking a look at the photo image. Thanks.
