Brief Answer:
This is treatable and curable condition

Detailed Answer:
Hi Mr XXXXXXX
Thanks for your query, albeit very small without any other additional information.

As per your history:
Male patient with history of Varicose Veins left leg.

Many people have varicose veins, but every one does not have complaints related to it or need an active treatment.

Varicosity means large tortuous veins thereby the in-built non-return valves of the veins do not work and the blood which retains in the veins cause the problems of large veins, pain, ulcer on the ankle area, color change of the skin etc.

I would advise you the following if you have not yet done the investigations::
-Clinical / Physical examination by the General Surgeon in your area (Vascular Surgeons are easily available even in the big cities).
-Color doppler of the left lower limb to find out which valves are not working, the extent of the veins involved, Whether you need a surgery or non-surgical treatment will be sufficient.
-Routine check-up for blood, urine, ECG, X-ray chest and ultrasonography of the abdomen to detect that you are not Diabetic or Hypertensive or have any other medical problem as your age is 53 years.
-If the valves are not working properly, the veins are too much dilated or you have developed skin changes or ulcer at the ankle you will need a definite Surgery.
-Till then learn from the General Surgeon how to apply the crepe Bandage to support the veins.
-Avoid standing for a long time.
-Drink plenty of water.
-Keep the legs in higher position above the heart level whenever you are lying down at home to drain the stagnated blood away to the heart.
-Some medicines may help like Oxerute which you will have to take in consultation with your Surgeon.

You may please provide me more details about your problems / any investigations done / any consultation and advise of the Surgeons; so that I can help you more.

I hope this answer is sufficient for you to take appropriate steps, sufficient for us to take continue our interactions to come to a final conclusion.
Please feel free to ask for more if you need to; or if you feel there is some gap-of-communication between us.
