Suggest Treatment For Vertigo

Question: My husband got sick this morning. He is 75 and in very good health. His symptoms are as follows: dizzy, most extreme when he looks up at ceiling or changes position with his eyes open; less pronounced if he closes his eyes. Feels nauseated when dizzy and has dry heaves as if to vomit but does not vomit anything even fluid. Temperature is subnormal. Although he is normally very active, he has been in bed all day, not reading or listening to news or music, which is very unusual for him. Any ideas on the diagnosis?
Thank you!

Brief Answer:
Seems like Vertigo

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome.
This is Dr. Sameer, a cardiologist.

Dizziness with eyes open & change in position looks like Vertigo which can be BPPV(Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo).

For such patients, we generally advise Tab Betahistine (Tab Vertin) 8mg thrice daily to start with and can go up to 24mg thrice daily. Their is specific exercise for BPPV which is actually the treatment.

You need to meet a ENT doctor who can demonstrate it. Nausea & vomiting will get better as the vertigo gets treated. Till than he can take any anti emetic medication (metoclopramide), avoid tab Ondansetron.

I hope and pray he gets better soon.
Thanks
