Suggest Treatment For Very Heavy Menstrual Flow

Question: Hi Dr Patra

I have a long history of heavy period because of the thick lining of uterus and took depo shot 3 weeks ago to stop period.
I'm annoyed by spotting/bleeding which I consider is the common side effect by depo shot.

I'm taking primolut N tablets 5mg one tablet 3 times a day to control bleeding/spotting.
(when blood is red I take two tablets 3 times a day.)
It's effective but primolut is very expensive here in Australia.

I would really appriciate If you would suggest me the alternative medication(more reasonable price).

I wonder taking pill like YAZ would be as effective as Primolut in this case?

Norethisterone pill is quite effective than combined pill.

Hello,

Thanks for posting your query. Followings are my comments:

1) Progesterone pill (like Norethisterone etc) is MORE effective in comparison to combined pill (like YAZ) in your case to control bleeding or spotting.

2) Some other brands like NORIDAY, AYGESTIN etc are available at reasonable price. Take these medicines for 3-6 cycles to get effective result. You should add IRON supplements along with above medication.
