Suggest Treatment For Very Rapid Heart Rate, Profuse Sweating And Dizziness
Question: I was working out this morning at the gym. strenuous workout but nothing new. After pulling a sled while running, I experienced very rapid heart rate, profuse sweating , and dizziness. I walked it off but then was unable to do anything else. Every time I tried to stand up, I became extremely dizzy (definitely would have passed out if I had not laid down). According to my trainer, I was extremely pale. It took me approximately 20 minutes to recover enough to sit up and then walk. I now feel better but weak. I do have a history of mild aortic insufficiency. NO high blood pressure (usually runs 90/60). Do you think this was just a freak occurrence?
Brief Answer:
A fast arrhythmia could cause the symptoms
Detailed Answer:
Dear Mrs,
It seems you have fast arrhythmia, which resulted low blood pressure and your symptoms.
I would advise you to undergo an ECG and stress test, if they come back normal, then you will need just follow up. In case there are such symptoms again, there will be a need for more serious investigations.
Wishing you good health
In case of further questions don't hesitate to ask

Thank you for your response Dr. Baghdasaryan. I understand the necessity of saying for me to follow-up with an ECG and stress test (I am a nurse). My heart rate is now normal at 60. Do you think it is safe to just monitor it and then if it happens again to get checked out? Being a nurse, I hate to appear overly dramatic.
Brief Answer:
Welcome back
Detailed Answer:
Dear Mrs,
I think ECG and stress test should be done surely. If you are very concerned, you can go ahead and undergo echocardiography and holter monitoring.
Also you can check some labs, such as electrolytes, Hb, thyroid.
If all come back normal, then follow up is the only advice I would give.
Regards,
Welcome back
