Suggest Treatment For Viral Fever In A Child
Question: Hi
My 4 year old daughter is having viral fever and prescribed to have Ibugesic (every 8 hrs which is 3 times daily) and Crocin (SOS, every 6 hrs and after 2 hrs of Ibugesic), right now we have given Ibugesic for the third cycle, since duration of Crocin for 6 hrs has completed can we give Crocin as well (since temparature has risen) or should we wait for next 2 hrs for Crocin to be given?
Please clarify.

Brief Answer:
Minimum gap between Crocin doses is 4 hours
Detailed Answer:
HI...the minimum gap between 2 doses of Crocin should be at least 4 hours. Please do not give Crocin even if the fever raises before this.
Fever of few days without any localizing signs could as well a viral illness. Usually rather than fever, what is more important is the activity of the child, in between 2 fever episodes on the same day. If the kid is active and playing around when there is no fever, it is probably viral illness and it doesn't require antibiotics at all. Once viral fever comes it will there for 4-7 days. So do not worry about duration if the kid is active.

Brief Answer:
You can give
Detailed Answer:
You can give Crocin now. But if the kid is well in between 2 episodes of fever, then nothing to worry... It could just be a viral illness.
But in my practice, I suggest not to give both Ibugesic and Crocin. Instead i give only Crocin in the prescribed dose every 4th hourly once. Sometimes rather than fever, too many drugs for fever can complicate the situation.
Danger signs include breathlessness/ rash/ low urine output/ seizures/ unconsciousness/ blood in motion. Don't worry if these are not there & the kid is active
