Suggest Treatment For Viral Infection In Children

Question: Hello - my son is 40 days old. He has been having a lot of congestion in his chest and stuffy nose. Small amount of phlegm comes out once in a while, but we can feel the congestion is more inside his chest. We tried nasoclear few times but it does not seem to be much help. Can you please advise.
Other than this, he is generally fine and no other symptoms.

Thanks for writing to us.
Based on your description it looks like your baby has a viral cold.
It is very common in this age.
For stuffy nose just continue nasoclear.
I usually prescribe ambroxol drops like mucolite at 0.3 ml twice daily for such patients in my clinic.
This will ensure the secretions become thinner and will result in improving symptoms.
But if your baby does not improve and continues to have cold and congestion it is better to consult your doctor to get him examined for chest signs or ear or throat infection.
Ensure feeding frequently.
Avoid giving any other medicines on your own like antibiotics.
