Suggest Treatment For Viral Urticaria
I had unprotected sex with my girlfriend and a couple of days later she experienced fever, bleeding , more like spotting and fatigue and mild weight loss. after about 4 days her symptoms of fever went away, but today morning she woke up with rashes all over her legs, face and torso, pink in colour, almost flat and not bumpy yet, she is experiencing mild itching. her weakness continues. i am freaking out. also her nephew was suffering from a viral fever a few days before she got the fever. she and her nephew stay in close contact since they share the same room.
please advice.
vIRAL URTICARIA
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for the query to hcm ,
This is typical viral urticaria or rash which must be over the whole body and itchy and usually starts once the fever subsides. This is definitely not due to unprotected sex that you had with her but has been contracted from her cousin once she started with fever , fatigue and spotting.
Please mention as to when was her LMP .
In the meantime she can opt for :-
1. TAB ALLEGRA 180mg twice a day for 3 days. FOR ITCHING.
2. CALAMINE LOTION for local application twice a day for 3 days.
These are available as otc in XXXXXXX
Take good balanced diet and increase her water intake ( 12-15 glasses of water).
This should resolve within 6 hrs of antihistaminic intake.

thank you for your reply. she visited a doctor today, because the rash has spread all over her body now. infact she is completely covered in this pink flat rash. what is LMP?
she has been given a few tests. which includes sgot sgpt dengue test cbc urine.
there is no fever. is this rash communicable? who long will it take to subside? does she need to do any other tests? again is this any form of STI?
thank you.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
LMP means last menstrual period.
Neatly if the rash has already spread and no relief obtained by antihistaminic and calamine lotion then its not allergic and can be erythema infectiosum. But the exact diagnosis can be established after the test reports and if need be a local biopsy may be done for histopathology for establishing diagnosis.
This is not a sexual transmitted disease rash, in absence of you having any rash .

Hello,
Dengue indeed can present with a rash of this nature. Good to know that it was timely diagnosed and her platelet counts are going up now. Usually dengue in summers is not seen but one cannot say.
Wishing her speedy recovery.
