Suggest Treatment For Visible Blue Vein Behind Tonsil
Question: Hi. I have a blue vein sticking out in my throat behind my tonsil. Only on one side. Is this to be worried about?
Brief Answer:
Keep an eye to it to see for changes.
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thank you for posting your question to HCM,
From what you are describing it seems like a visible vessel behind your tonsil. If you have no symptoms like bleeding, pain, fever, then you should not worry about it.
People have variations of the anatomy of the vessels and as soon as it is not getting worse and not causing discomfort, then don't worry about it.
Just keep an eye to it from time to time would be my recommendation.
Hope this is helpful.

Thank you for your response.
When I was asleep last night, I was awoken by throbbing at the site.
But no issues since then.
Headache in the day. But I assume that to be due to a stressful day at work.

Brief Answer:
Having no issues anymore means it was probably momentarily discomfort
Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXXXXX
Thank you for asking a follow-up question.
The vessels in that area are small and strong enough to not cause hemorrhage or get burst.
Also, its not a typical place to cause vessel blockage.
Sometimes, if a symptom happen only once, or rarely it is most probably something not significant of a problem but just a physical change. Having no problem since then its a good sign.
From what I'm hearing, it looks something not to worry about.
But as I said before, keep an eye on it and if its bothering you and not getting better then have it checked.
