Suggest Treatment For Visible Veins On Shoulder Area
Question: Large blue veins have just appeared from my right shoulder and across the upper right chest. They seem to be subsiding now but were very dark for a little while. Note: I am in my third month of recovery from having that shoulder replaced. Also, the incision area from the shoulder replacement was very red at the same time of the appearance of the veins, but that also seems to be subsiding.
It's spreading. I now see a large blue vein on the other side of my chest, my forearms and hands.

Brief Answer:
no need to worry but further tests are required
Detailed Answer:
Hi and welcome.
It is not uncommon that such symptoms are seen. After such surgeries there is certain damage and manipulation of blood vessels in shoulder area. When veins are cut and ligated then colaterals develop and remnant veins dilate so these are more visible. It should improve during the time but if pain occurs or your sYmptoms worsen then you should do Doppler ultrasound to rule out vein thrombosis. Wish you good health.regards
