Suggest Treatment For Vitiligo And Penile Vitiligo

default
Posted on Thu, 12 Mar 2015
Question: I’ve had vitiligo slightly around eyes for over 10 years. Also penile vitiligo developed with 30% of it.
For ages I see some small area that sometimes catch my eye around my mouth only in a certain light, it looks pale. But my dermatologist couldn’t see anything and I think he looked with a special light where i pointed. Does this mean it’s just my imagination? No one else can see it and for me it seems to appear and other times not be there - it's strange.

My dermatologist recommended no immune suppressing meds right now as he feel my vitiligo is unnoticeable on my face, but it is on penile but no one see it there. If it was to spread he says we then use the meds that use immune suppression and are effective he said.

My other question is about Aloe Vera. I understand there is no proof about it been good for vitiligo. But i read some people found it treated them with this skin product. Is it worth me trying to apply this to see if anything happens?
I am taking supplements and my dermatologist agree it is good. My MCV on blood test was raised suggesting vitamin b deficiency, so I now supplement strong B complex, vitamin D, cod liver oil, magnesium, 5htp. Any other I should take with vitiligo?

Thanks

Brief Answer:
Vitiligo has unpredictable prognosis

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Welcome to HCM...

I can understand your concern for treatment of vitiligo. You may be knowing that vitiligo is having genetic influence. And it is also considered an autoimmune disease.
The prognosis in vitiligo is totally unpredictable. In some patient, it may heal without any treatment and in some, it might not respond to any treatment and might worsen during treatment.

Exact cause is not known. Trauma or friction to skin might precipitate the disease.

Vitiligo on face might respond very well. Vitiligo on genital area might not respond. I would like to suggest following line of treatment....

- tab trioxsalen 25 mg daily in morning
- tab levamisole 50 mg at night
- tacrolimus 0.1% oint application

You consult dermatologist and have knowledge about prognosis and management of your skin disease.

I hope this would be helpful to you.

Thanks.
