Suggest Treatment For Vomiting And Diarrhea In Children
Question: My daughter (7 years, weighing 20 kg) had severe stomach pain and repeated vomitting (5 times) on 15th Feb evening. I took her to hospital where she was given Inj. Ondem and Inj. Rantac. There was a relief for some time but the pain and vomitting reappeard after 4-5 hours. She did not have any fever or diarrhea. I am not sure if she has some bacterial infection.
We then visited paediatrician who suggested following medicines :
1. Syrup Oflox - 5ml. thrice a day
2. Syrup Nizonide - 5ml twice a day
3. Syrup Meftal - 2.5ml thrice a day
4. Syrup Mabex - 5ml twice a day
We are give her the above midicines. Is it the correct management? Have heard that Oflox is not one of the safest medicine for pediatric use.
Vomitting has stopped but she is still complaining off and on stomach pain.
Brief Answer:
its safe
Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for writing to health care magic.
Usually vomiting and diarrhoea is due to viral but sometimes can be due to bacterial infection too.
Your doctor has rightly prescribed the medicines.
Continue them . Ofloxacin is safe for kids.
Don't worry.
Wishing good health

Thank you so much Dr. Arun!
I was bit concerned because she has been taking the medicines for two days now but still complaining pain. Does it take this long to subside the pain or does she need detailed investigation?
Brief Answer:
yes
Detailed Answer:
Yes it may take Upto 5 to 7 days for viral diarrhea to settle.
If it doesn't settle in next 2 days maybe you can get Stool test done for routine and reducing substances.
