Suggest Treatment For Vomiting, Motion Sickness And Nausea
Question: My family and I just returned from a trip via auto that was a 10 hour drive. My 12 year old son who is a very picky eater hardly ate on our trip which was 4 days long. On the day of our return he had not had a bowel movement in 48hrs. He started vomiting during the last few hours of our car ride. I assumed it was motion sickness or that he was constipated. Upon getting home he did have a bowel movement but then continued to vomit every 1.5 - 2hrs over a 14 hour time frame. He has not vomited in about 30 hours but continues with no appetite and I have been keeping him hydrated with water, juice, Popsicles, and now a bit of jello. The reason for my concern is that he is still complaining of nausea, and has not had any normal intake of food in almost 3 complete days. while he is sitting or laying down he is fine and nausea free. But everything he stands up he is hit wit nausea and needs to sit. He did have a bowel movement again today. His abdomen is soft and non-distended. He has no other complaints at time time but nausea when standing and no interest in food. Is it normal for a GI bug to cause only nausea when standing?? Should I be concerned that something else may be going on?
Brief Answer:
Symptomatic management is enough.
Detailed Answer:
Hi Sir/Mam.
I understand your concern.
Your son possibly seem to have moderately severe form of Motion sickness.
Of course the role of Gut Virus cannot be ruled out at the moment.
His current complaints are not significant enough to call for acute medical care.
Yes nausea can show postural variations in children when caused by motion sickness.
Constipation can be a part of the illness.
All I suggest is to give him tab Pantop D one tab on empty stomach daily for 4 days.
A bedtime dose of 2 tab of Dulcolax will help to pass stool and relieve constipation .
These drugs have to be taken under medical supervision.
Post your further queries if any.
Thank you.
