Brief Answer:
Hold off solids, fluid replacement, small amounts of liquid, medication

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

He more likely has a viral infection of the GI tract. Most adults improve within a few days, in some cases it may be a 24 hour issue and in others, it can go up to 7 days.

Rarely 2 weeks.

Treatment

(1) Most of the over the counter meds to help with nausea and vomiting are going to cause drowsiness eg Dramamine
Even Benadryl, the antihistamine, can help with nausea and vomiting

(2) Paracetamol / Tylenol would help with the fever and chills

(3) No solid food till 3 to 4 hours with no symptoms

(4) Needs liquids to help rehydrate but if he uses too much at a time, it would cause vomiting

In general, 1 tablespoon every 5 mins is recommended for the first hour then if this is tolerated, the amount can be increased
Oral rehydration solutions or a dilute sport drink can be used to replace electrolytes and fluids.

The sports drink would need to be diluted to reduce the sugar content.

(5) Any acid reflux or burning can be treated with Pepcid or Tums etc.

I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions
