Question: My daughter has a lot of cough and she is coughing a lot.

Previously when we met her doc, he prescribed us Brozeet, Meftal and Allegra.

If the coughing is less, I just give her relent but from today i have opted from the above medication.

Whatever she has eaten has all been vomitted out along with the mucus after half an hour.

Shall i change the medication pls advice.
Can i give her antibiotics like Taxim O or Azitheral.

Pls advice.

Brief Answer:
Antibiotics unlikely to help.

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

Most often such symptoms are due to viral infections and antibiotics are ineffective in such cases and so I would advise against giving Taxim-O or Azithral without checking the blood counts. Antibiotics would not help and irrespective of antibiotics, it usually spontaneously resolves in 5-7 days. You can give her Relent or Allegra along with Brozeet. Meftal needs to be given only if there is fever.

You need to give steam inhalation to your child. It helps in reducing the congestion. Water vapor will reach deep inside and would help in diluting the cough and thus would provide relief. Use Nasoclear Saline Nasal Drops in case of nose block.

Hope I have answered your query.
