Suggest Treatment For Water Retention And Irregular Periods When Diagnosed With Hypothyroidism
Question: Doctor,
I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism 3 years ago. I am taking Thyronorm 25mg on weekdays and 50 mg on weekends. My TSH is at 2.88. For the last six months I have been retaining a lot of water at the start of my menstrual cycle and losing it only a few days before the next cycle starts. I also feel boated after every meal. I have stopped having whole grains and reduced the salt in my meals, although I have always been careful about what I eat. I also have a low intolerance for cold nowadays. Could you please let me know what could be the problem?

Brief Answer:
need some calcium, multivitamin, and vitamin D supplements.
Detailed Answer:
Dear Ma'm, Hi! welcome to HCM! I am Dr. Minal.
Your thyroid balance is normal. So your dose of thyroxine is adequate . You can continue taking the same dose.
As far as swelling and fluid retention is concerned, it is a usual complaint with most women. this has no particular answer but you can increase physical activity, add some calcium, vitamin D and B12 in your daily diet. Also add some physical activity on a regular basis. exercise will take care of bloating as well.
also next time whenever you check your thyroid profile do a complete check up
TSH
FT4
Vit D
B12
Calcium
do let me know the reports.
regards!

Thank you Doctor!
I got the following tests done:
1. TSH - 2.62
2. FT4 - 15.4
3. TOTAL CALICIUM - 9.9
4. HAEMOGLOBIN PERCENTAGE - 14.1. All the parameters in the CBC report were normal except for the LYMPHOCYTES - 50.4%
I also have a high intolerance for the cold now. I have noticed that because the people in the same room don't complain about the cold.
What would you deduce from my test results?
