Question: Upon awakening, I have morning dry heaves during diarrhoea and watery, repetitive bowel movements. By mid-day, I am weak but ok. What is likely going on?

Brief Answer:
Probably an allergy to something you ate or some other thing!

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.

I have reviewed this information fully and it is suggestive of a possible allergy to food. I will suggest you add Benadryl to this treatment as well as drinking much water and get some rest. All will be okay. Then, review all what you te over the past hours/days to see if there was anything new. Look closely at seafoods for most likely culprits.

I hope this helps. I wish you well. Thanks for using our services and feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be.

Thank you for your thoughts regarding a food allergy. However, something quite similar occurred last Fall for several weeks ans was likely not food related. My diet is relatively "fixed" with similar foods for most meals. Since I have both dry heaves and diahrrea upon my first trip to the restroom in the morning, what else might that suggest to you--especially when it lasts for a few weeks and then seems to go away on its own?

I am trying Zantac right now, with little effect. In the middle of a morning episode, a librax plus a half tab of pepto bismal seems to curtail the worst of the symptoms for that day. The issue is the unexpected suddenness of the morning urge (while awakening and feeling at first fine), with nausea, plus the duration of several weeks. My personal physician has suggested allergies. Your further thoughts? With my thanks. /Keith

Brief Answer:
PLease, what do you mean by dry heaves?

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thanks for this follow up precision.

I am a bit concerned that we may not be talking of the same condition referring to dry heaves. Can you please kindly tell me what you mean in different words by dry heaves? I will like to factor this before providing further information about this.

I wish you well and hope to hear from you at your earliest convenience.

"Dry heaves" as I use it refers to the act of vomiting without any substance, or very little, being expelled during the act of attempted vomiting.

This occurs simultaneously while sitting at stool with diarrhea and each time a diarrhea episode occurs.

After I have taken a half pepto-bismal tablet and a librax in the morning, after having virtually emptied my bowel, I am weakened but stable for the remainder of the day. I can eat, drink, and work more or less as usual until I arise the next morning. Last fall this went on for several weeks. So far this time it is about one week already. I am open to your thoughts and suggestions, and with thanks. /Keith

Brief Answer:
This could be related to IBS!

Detailed Answer:
HI and thanks so much for this clarification.

In all sincerity, i understood dry heaves in a totally different context. Thanks for making this clear to me.

This could be suggestive of acid reflux or IBS. I will suggest that you continue with Zantac. In addition, please avoid alcohol, fatty meals, chocolate, cigarettes and going early to bed soon after meals. Also endeavor to use a pillow to elevate the head while sleeping to avoid reflux episodes. Depending on the evolution, we may suggest further testing if there is no significant improvement.

I wish you well and please keep me posted.
