Detailed answer....
Hello,
Thanks for the query.
I have read your query and am feeling that you are getting tense about it.
There is no reason to get tensed about it.
You see our thyroid gland produces thyroxin hormones and when the amount of thyroxin produced is lessened ,one  develops hypothyroidism as you have developed.
Treatment consists of supplementing thyroxine hormone in your diet to compensate the less production by thyroid gland.
Your doctor is rightly giving you the proper medicine for it.
The goal of treatment is to bring your TSH level to 1.5 to 2.
In many people increase of weight occurs if thyroid is not controlled, but if you are taking proper medicine and keeping a watch on your calorie intake and also doing regular exercises, then your weight won't increase.
The best exercises for reduction of weight are aerobic exercises for 40-45 minutes a day.
Loss of hair, dry skin, constipation etc are other problems of hypothyroidism.
I hope it helps, however you are most welcome to revert to me for any further query.
Best of luck
Thanks

Hello,
Since synthetic thyroxine is a replacement for the deficient natural production of thyroxine in your body,it has to be taken life long.
In elderly patients requirement of doses reduces.
Make sure that you keep testing your TSH every six weeks so that in case change of dose is required,it can be done.
This repeat testing every 6 weeks is done till the dose is stabilised.
Stabilisation of dose is observed when your TSH levels are between 1.5 to 2.
Thanks
