Suggest Treatment For Weight Loss While Recovering From Walking Pneumonia

I am a 48 year-old male. I was recently diagnosed with walking pneumonia. My oxygen saturation level was low enough that I was admitted to the hospital for 4 days. I was on IV fluids and IV antibiotics. I was released this past Saturday (4 days ago). My normal weight is around 240. Going into the hospital, I weighed 236 pounds fully clothed. My current weight fully clothed is 230 pounds with the same clothes I wore entering the hospital. I am on oral antibiotics currently. I haven't closely analyzed my appetite or food intake, but I am concerned about the weight loss. Is this normal or should I be concerned?

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
During admission in hosptial and that too with pneumonia is stressful condition for body.
The antibiotics which you have taken are of higher grade and usually the appetite is lost.
Usually we have seen that patients do lose weight pre and post admissions as the diet is reduced and body has to cope with the stress of infection/ disease and also handle antibiotics. So as you also have mentioned that you lost roughly 8 to 10 lbs of weight, I think that is expected and nothing abnormal with it.
As you get fully recovered and stop all the medications you have been taking and resume your normal full diet you will automatically start gaining weight and come back to your normal weight range.
So do not worry. Get recovered fast and you will be fine.
Hope this advice helps.

Thank you
