Brief Answer:
yes, this can occur
Detailed Answer:
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic
Yes, this can occur after a viral infection due to the effect of the virus on the throat and it may also occur if there is any post nasal drip of mucus to the back of throat.
The main aspects of treatment include: (a) resting the voice as much as possible, (b)steam inhalation,
(c)treating any post nasal drip of mucus if present
(d)suppressing any cough if this is also still present because it can stress the throat
If you have a history of reflux then treatment of this condition would also help along with decreasing exposure to cigarette smoke.
I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions

i got the white spots on tondils weeks ago that cleared. doc said my throat is fine. my loss of voice he said is viral and needs time. but its been 4 weeks now
Brief Answer:
treat reflux and post nasal drip, consider ENT specialist
Detailed Answer:
HI
Sorry about the late reply
4 weeks is a long time to have to deal with hoarseness for any one.
Though you may not have typical symptoms of reflux or post nasal drip , you might consider using medication still in case either of these conditions is playing a role.
There are some who do not have the typical burning or bloating of reflux or detect the drip
Using reflux medication and also anti histamine/decongestant combination may be useful.
If the hoarseness continues beyond another 10 days to 2 weeks, you should consider seeing an ENT doctor or if you are currently seeing one, getting a second opinion.
Please feel free to ask any thing else

what medications would you suggest for the reflux.
Brief Answer:
proton pump inhibitors would be the best option
Detailed Answer:
HI,
The best medications for reflux are the proton pump inhibitor family of medications. eg nexium, prilosec, prevacid, protonix etc
These medications reduce acid production better compared to other reflux meds.
They can take a few days to take an effect because they do not get rid of the acid present but stop/reduce future acid production.
If anything else unclear, can let me know
