Question: I have been on prodep 20 for 6 yrs
Stopping the medicine now for a couple of days agitates my mind really bad and thoughts start torturing me

Thanks for writing to us. I can understand your concern.

Prodep- fluoxetine is and SSRI group of drug. Stopping it cold turkey after long duration intake may cause drug discontinuation symptoms. Though it has longest half-life among all SSRI drugs and the least chance of such symptoms with prodep but still it can happen.
If you are stable in your problem since long I recommend starting low dose benzodiazepine to treat discontinuation symptoms. You will be soon better.

In any case if your symptoms remain the same or worsen restarting prodep is the best option. Later on you can stop it by reducing dose to 10 mg first and then taking alternate day.

You can discuss these recommendation with your treating doctor and take further treatment.
