Suggest Treatment Fro Tick Bite On Leg
Question: My husband just extracted what looks like a hard tick from his leg. It had been there about two days, and he thought it was a cyst of some sort, until it was removed and started moving. He presently has no symptoms and no pain. There had been some itching earlier. A red spot is where the tick was for two days, and the area has been cleansed with peroxide and gum spirits of turpentine. (He had put rubbing alcohol and turpentine on it last night as well.) What should he be concerned about now?

Brief Answer:
Course of antibiotic
Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for the query.
Hard tick can cause Lymes disease.
It's better to take a preventive course of antibiotics.
A course of capsule doxycycline 100 mg twice daily for a week should be sufficient.
It is safe and effective.
Apply a mild steroid cream like cortisone twice daily for a week at the site of bite.
This will help in decreasing itch, but you should get a prescription for these medicines from your doctor.
Let me know if you have any other doubts.
Thank you.
