Suggest Treatment Knee Osteoarthritis
Question: Hi,
My father (aged around 71) is diagonalize to be osteoarthritic in his left knee.
This is detected at around January 2015.
Initially he was unable to stand on his left knee,
But with medication and exercises he able to walk with difficulty and pain in left knee.
Xray report of his left knee says
1. Gross osteoarthritic change with
Sharpening of tribal spines.
Osteophytes at both poles of patella
Diminished patello femoral space medially.
One doctor has suggested to go for Joint replacement surgery,
so I would like to know if this problem can be cured with medication(if yes what medication and exercises) or surgery is the only way ?
Thanks

Brief Answer:
joint replacement is permanent solution
Detailed Answer:
Hello
I have read your query and seen report.
I will advise you to go for joint replacement if you need permanent treatment.
Till time conservative medication like chondritin sulphate will help.
If severe pain then local intra articular injection may give you long term relief.
Physiotherapy like ultrasound and Tens may give you temporary relief.
