Suggest Treatment Severe Consistent Sneezing And Painful Nostrils
Question: This past Tuesday I had a sneezing fit, it was hard sneezing. All of a sudden the inside of my right nostril hurt way up and it hurt to breath through that nostril. Then clear fluid started running out of my right nostril. It was not mucus, it was like water. This continued until yesterday. I went through two boxes of Kleenex. It was a continuous flow of clear, water like liquid. Could it have been brain fluid and if so I have never had this happen before.

Usually however hard the sneezing is it will not cause csf rhinorhea.
But if you feel it might be there are certain signs which can diffretiate between them.
When you bend down if the flow increases then it could be csf. If it does not change it could be just allergic rhinitis.
If you can sniff back the fluid it is mostly allergic rhinitis. Because csf you cannot sniff back.
The taste also differs. Allergic rhinitis will be salty whearas csf will be sweetish because of glucose present it it.
Also glucose levels will be low in allergic rhinitis as compared to csf.
There is a confirmatory test called as beta 2 transferrin of the fluid. It will be invariably positive if it is csf fluid whearas if its just allergic one then it will be negative.
