Question: my mothers dog bit me while I was trying to put a coat on him he growled to let me know he didn't like what I was doing but I was persistent..and got bit. he got me pretty good between my thumb and index finger and several other punctures, I washed it good and put antibiotic ointment on it. its really sore and is white around it. I have had a bandaid on it though so the white around it could be from the bandaid? He has been vaccinated I think he's about 7 or 8 yrs old . He may be late on his shots this year not sure. He is a house dog. I had a tetnus shot january of 2012. I will check with her vet tomorrow and see when he last had his vaccines. should I do anything right now?

Brief Answer:
White around the wound is due to less blood supply caused by the bandage

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Welcome to Healthcare Magic,

I have gone through history and the uploaded picture and understand your concern, First of all I feel sorry for the incidence.

According to WHO categorization of dog bite you are having Cat III bite which requires thorough wound washing, active immunization with anti rabies vaccine and anti rabies serum or rabies immunoglobulin. You have thoroughly washed your wound by the history you have given.

As it is a vaccinated pet dog I would suggest you to take atleast three shots of anti rabies vaccine on days 0 (Day of first shot), day 3 and day 7.

Preferably the dog bite wound should not be bandaged, it should be left open and well aerated. The White around the wound is due to less blood supply caused by the bandage. As you have taken Inj TT in 2012, you doesn't require TT injection now.

You require a course of oral antibiotics too, I would suggest you to consult your ER at the earliest for further treatment.
Thank you.
