
Suggest Treatment To Cure Liver Cirrhosis

Question: My father was suffering from paralysis from past 4 years and but year his hepatis report was found to be positive(Hept. b+) and his current stituation isthat water is formed in his stomach from past 9 months .We have removed water from stomach 7 times till now.I have attached all the reorts from initial till date.Please suggest what I should do in such situation .My current doctor is Dr XXXXXXX Choudhary in Lucknow.His todays report is ,
serum creatine 3.0 mg/dl
serum sodium(Na+) 132.0 mmol/l
serum potassium(K+) 3.9 mmol/l
haemoglobin 8.1gm%

1. Does your father consume alcohol?
2. The test report says he is positive for anti HBcIgM. Is he positive for anti HBc Total also?
3. Can I have older reports of serum creatinine?
4. Was serum alpha feto protein test done?

1.Yes, my father use to consume alcohol before he got paralysis.
2.No , he is not positive for anti HBc Total.
3.I don't have the reports right now with me but I can tell you the values ;
serum creatine 4.0 mg/dl
serum sodium(Na+) 133.0 mmol/l
serum potassium(K+) 3.3 mmol/l
haemoglobin 9.2gm%
4.Yes the serum alpha feto protein test was also done.

Your father has got cirrhosis of liver. It is an irreversible condition. The only definitive treatment is liver transplantation.
His Hepatitis B might be coincidental.
He can develop complications like blood vomiting, black stools, altered brain function, altered kidney function etc.
So he needs to continue the medications he is taking now.
He should take salt restricted diet and this will prevent accumulation of fluid in the abdomen and legs.
He is prone to develop liver cancer.
So he needs to check serum alpha feto protein level every 6 months along with ultrasound scan of the abdomen.
