Suggest Treatment To Get Rid Of Candidiasis Fungal Infection

Posted on Sat, 14 Jun 2014
Question: I have problem of Candidiasis in the inner thigh and groin area for more than last 5 years. The fungal infection keeps getting active and dormant. I have been using various medicines as per the attached prescriptions. These medicines have been largely helpful in getting the fungal infection down. However after few weeks of stopping the medicine, the problem recurrs. I am interested in solution to completely get rid of Candidiasis fungal infection. Please suggest suitable medicine for the same. Kindly note, I have also started wearing loose boxer shorts to avoid skin contact with wet clothes for elongated period of time.

I had consulted on this forum sometime back and was advised the following medicines:
-Antifungal creams: Either Clotrimazole/Ketoconazole/Sertaconazole/ OR Luliconazole for 4-6 weeks
-Antifungal tablets: Either Fluconazole/Itraconazole for 4-6 weeks
-An oral antihistamines like either Cetrizine/Fexofenadine or Loratadine can be taken once or twice daily symptomatically, for the itch associated with fungal infection
-An antifungal dusting powder like Clotrimazole

I had taken Fluconazole 200 tablet twice and Cetrizine tablet for 10 days. I am using Clotimazole 2% cream and Clotrimazole dusting powder Abzorb for a long time. Recently my wife had consulted a gynecologist who suggested both of us to take FAS 3 kit followed by ViBacy-DS for a month.

Please suggest suitable medicines for getting rid of Candidiasis fungal infection completely.

Brief Answer:
duration of treatment is important

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for the query.
Response to treatment with antifungal shows that the diagnosis is correct.
However your problem is recurrent.
It is important to understand that most of antifungal drugs are fungustatic, that is they prevent fungus from growing but they cannot kill the fungus.
Once their growth is restricted symptoms decrease.
When medication is stopped they again regrow.
To break this chain it is important to continue using the same medicine for another two months once all the symptoms disappear.
Hope this helps.
Let me know if you have any other doubts.
Thank you

Thanks. I will start Fluconazole 150 mg per week for 16 weeks. Please advise;

1. Should I continue taking ViBact-DS capsule. My wife's gynecologist advised both of us to take the same for 1 month. I have been taking for 2 weeks now.

2. Should I also take Cetrizine tablet together with the suggested medicine

3. I am planning to put Abzorb Clotrimazole dusting powder with Clotrimazole cream in the morning and only Clotrimazole Powder in the evening. Please advise if this is okay, or I should use cream + powder both in morning and night.
