Suggest Treatment To Get Rid Of Head Lice
Question: Hello doctor from past 20 days I have been facing head lice problem, could you please suggest me some gel or ointment to get rid of this problem...thanks XXXX

You could do the following treatment.
1. Use a lotion containing 1 % Permethrin ( e.g 1% Pelice lotion). Apply this on your scalp, leave it for 20 minutes and wash it off. Do this twice a week for 1 week and thereafter weekly for 6-8 weeks. The eggs of the lice could hatch even after 2 weeks. Therefore you should use this regularly at least for 8 weeks as I have mentioned.
2. After washing the lotion, take a comb and comb your hair nicely so that the lice and the nits fall off.
3. You could take a tablet containing Levocetrizine ( e.g - Levocet) one at bedtime for about 3 days for symptomatic relief of itching.
4. All the contacts in your house have to be treated as lice spreads through close contacts.
5. Do not share combs/ towels to prevent spread of head lice.
